1st and 2nd in Viewers Choice....Happy ? You Bet

PJ's Dragon was voted second and my BMFQ block of the month came first. i had a lot of fun with this quilt only the block in the centre of the bottom row was made as the pattern instruced, I changed all the others in some way adding or taking out some of the patterns and adding fillers and the big block on the right. There were only 9 blocks in the origanial quilt.

All the pisley fabric is beaded, there wuld be thousands on beads on the quilt as i used the beads to appliqe the flowers on.

This quilt was made and put together over 12 months.

It of cause made me very happy to win the Viewers Choice first time ever.

Sue comes to stay all the way from Perth

Sue my girlfriend from Perth came over for my birthday in August 08-08-08 and what a wonderful birthday it was...

This lovely vibrant and very funny friend enjoys the quilts i make , especilly the 3 I have made for her but would NEVER make one herself ...why are we friends ?????

Because she like a drink, shopping for nice things and Eating great food .

I met Sue on Christmas Island in 1994 when I worked over there. She cmae to our wedding and spotted a quilt hanging on the rack and said' mmmmmmmmm i like that one so i gave it to her...weak moment...lol

My Sewing Lounge opens for FUN

The week-end 19th & 20th September Lorraine & Edith two of my dear patchwork friends made the trip down from Benalla to spend time with me.
It didn't take us long to get the machines humming on Friday night...sewing and sipping is always the best way to start a weekend.
After Trevor cooked us his special Egg & Bacon Mac Trevor burgers on Saturday we got down to sewing again. After lunch Nola & Clare from my little patchwork group 'Quilters of the BigRoom of the West' came to play and watched us do some fabric dying and on Sunday Lou & Heather-Ann came over.
The week-end was full of fun and look forward to them coming back in Febuary.
They left after morning tea on the Monday

My Quilting Princess

This past week I have spent many hours making a quilt for http://www.annzmaterialworld.com/ and right beside me always is my cat booddybood. Not a cuddly cat likes to be about us UNTIL the grandchildren arrive and then she is up on the water tank as quick as wink.

To day my dear mother and dad have come up from Geelong for the day. We are off to pick up my trotter as he has been broken in and ready to Run..hopefully RUN like the Wind. Being a quilter e has the name of Missouri Star....LOL when he was born I got out 501 patchwork blocks to pick the name but Lulu found it in her book first..

Till next time Happy Stitching

Autumn Magic

Today's quilt is "Autumn Magic"inspiration came from pictures from one of many quilting books I look at, ...just which one I carn't remember...

I spent a few days with my friend Kama, she is an accomplished artist and showed me how to paint, or rather be confident to paint on fabric..relax and paint... so I watched her as she free

hand painted the trees on four panels. The fabric was commercially dyed, the leaves were put on using raw edge applique with my Gammill Plus quilting machine, then i used the quilting technique know as Drawing with Thread..

Quilt Diva

This quilt was very easy to make, I got the pattern and fabric..Moda Quilt Diva (a Jelly Roll) from http://www.annzmaterialworld.com/ the pattern was easy to read and follow and having the Jelly Roll ment the cutting time was cut down also.

Darling Trevor dropped into spotlight to pick up the black and was ticked off because a lady pushed in front of him " what she think I was doing there looking at the counter????" LOL

i quilted the quilt in the ditch and used dacron instead of cotton or wool because i wanted the high loft and cuddly look.

I made this quilt to take with me on Retreats....I was to go on one with Kerry http://www.myfavoritethings.com.au/ but i have to go back to hospital Again for a small opp.
I will make another quilt and pretend to be on retreat.
I am also making another quilt for Annz collection.

Weekend with my grandchildren

Lulu's children Claire & PJ came to stay for the weekend while Lulu & Steven had a weekend in a Spud Hut in the near by town of Springbank.

The children had fun on Grandpa's quad bike, zooming about in the trailer getting muddy and helping their grandpa with the gathering of the eggs and wood,

While they were kept busy I quilted Lulu's Japanese quilt.

Playing Sewing with Friends

Today my friends Catherine and Lou came to play, Lou sat quietly and worked on her Life's Pleasures and Treasures by Kerry Gillespie myfavoritethings-kerry.blogspot.com while Catherine and I worked on a quilt that needed lots of thinking while piecing not to mention the anguish ......etc ....any way the quilts are together and now we will work on them and make them our own.

Making a quilt with a buddy is a great thing, Seeing how each one interprets the written pattern to the end result......... I will publish the to quilts we worked on when finished. Catherine comes to play very often, we don't always make Quilts but we do always drink champagne and enjoy a piece of chocolate or two.
If you look very closely at the table you can see the glasses, coffee cups etc etc.....LOL
a good day was had by all... there will be now sewing tomorrow but it is quite possible the fabrics will be bought we are going to lunch then to Gail's Employium in Sebastopol.

"PJ's Dragon" 2007

Insperation for PJ's Dragon come form a serong brought home by my daughter LuLu from Bali in 2007

I had the border fabric and new when i saw it i had to have it (as you do) collecting the gold and black fabrics took many months to find just one of the pleasures in quilt making.

Once I got the quilt in my mind I wanted to start but didn't have the red fabric for his back so I set up my Big Machine and drew each back bone scale with gold thread then filled them all in.Then came the making of the scales for his body, I used my quilting foot on my Pfaff Grand Quilter and using a folded 2" strip i stitched U's all along it, trimmed them and pulled them inside out using tweesers. They were all sewed on one by one. His head as made piece by piece and then put together using lots of beads. I then went into the internet to see what background features the Chinese used in their pictures and found the black and gold border and design for quilting.
I have showed him at Jeff's Shed Victorian Quilters Show Case. Chandlers Cottage and it one first prize at out local quilt show Ballan Autumn Festival in the oriental section. 2007
I made this quilt for my grandson PJ ( son of LuLu) and at the moment it lives on my loungeroom wall,
He will get it one day.....................................

first blog .....Here We Go

after looking at mt friend Kerry Gillespie of "My Favorite Things" blog I dicided to try one myself..... so here we go...

I have been Passionate about Quilting for many years now after learning basic patchwork and quilting in Singapore in 1984. I had done patchwork before that making my DD (dear daughter) a quilt for her pram in 1975 but I didn't know what i was doing in thoes days, being an interior decorator i played with lovely fabrics for many years.
When I returned to Melbourne in 1997 I opened a Patchwork shop "Manily Patchwork" in Moonee Ponds. in 1998 we moved back to Singapore in i took over the teaching of patchwork from the lass who taught me and sarted WWQ World Wide Quilters. doing work shops, challenges and quilt exhibitions. In 1991 we returned to Australia and moved to North East Victoria. When settled in Benalla I started teaching patchwork again and held a "Quilts i the Garden" exhibition and started The Daily Quilters we met every Wednesday morning with lost of fun and laughter along with some stitching.
On April 13th i had a terriable horse riding accident which was to change my life for ever ..but that is for another blog.
